![]() The rivet counters have an odd disconnect, which we have discussed here before, between accurately modeling the mechanics of an airplane and accurately modeling the experience of flying and fighting an airplane. Oleg himself has said that the vast majority of IL-2 owners fly exclusively single player so it’s quite sad that they don’t seem to put any real effort into making it better. Even if I had the time or desire to play co-op multiplayer, the AI would still be terrible on the other side. This is really my biggest problem with IL-2 (and most sims out today). ![]() I’m guessing the IL-2 forum whiners all just play multiplayer, since there’s been no bitching about the way the AI flies the planes that they nitpicked into perfection. Gotta hope the AI’s seen some serious improvement here. turning fights.) The single-player version of Air Warrior, which was ugly as sin and running on an ancient engine, did this wonderfully. There were sims out 3 or 4 years before the original IL-2 where pilots would execute realistic maneuvers, break off attacks when damaged, and fly maneuvers that took advantage of the strengths of their planes. Il-2:1946 is fine multiplayer, but the AI is ridiculously simplistic, unrealistic, and suicidal. ![]() Frankly, I’m far more concerned about the AI and tactics than I am about the missions and campaign.
